Apple Gorge, first opened in 1980, is located at the far East end of town, and runs for a length of five miles. You can spot the gorge on the left hand side as you drive South down Apple Parkway.
Apple Gorge was named after the young daughter of the man who first opened the gorge's recreational center. Samuel Green, with the help of his wife, Arabelle, and his daughter, Frances, (affectionately nicknamed "Apple",) opened the Apple Gorge Recreational Center in hopes of spreading his love for nature's water features.
